Do you like Buzz Breaks? Today's your day then as we launch 12 in 12 -- a series of a dozen breaks of past wax boxes and wax packs in a dozen hours. We'll post one every hour on the hour all day long today ... this is Hour 8.
The pack: 1991 Topps Stadium Club football cards
The cost: $1.50
What's inside this pack? Keep reading ...
Cards per pack: 12 (see all in gallery below)
Base set completion:
12 of 500 (2 percent)
Duplicates: 0
Inserts: None
Autographs/Memorabilia: No chance
What's Buzz-worthy: We're trying this one again for a second time in a 12 in 12 marathon. Ripping this one is all about chasing one of the top Brett Favre Rookie Cards out there -- one that misspells his last name "Farve" and was not corrected. This is a big set and that fact that lowers your odds of finding Favre inside a single pack. Assuming perfect collation, you'd land him in every 42nd pack -- so roughly every other box (36 packs per box). I don't think boxes were shrink-wrapped that first year and the cellophane wrappers are clear enough you can see who's on the top and bottom of packs. I'm not sure if collation of this one was like standard Topps at the time (I didn't buy much of this then), but it's very possible that cards are always in the same order each time. That's a bummer -- but at least these packs can't be opened and re-sealed easily like wax paper. Good news here? Packs are cheap and there are 48 RCs in the set that aren't Favre and there are some big names from the NFL at the time. This pack would have been a big winner back then with an Emmitt Smith, a Rookie Card of Todd Marinovich and then a few other RCs that still probably would have sold. The rest of the pack? Not so flashy. If you want to pull a Favre, it's do-able if wax is from a trusted dealer who isn't worried about searching packs. But if you want Favre, you can find graded copies relatively cheap. You also have to open these carefully as to not damage the cards as hey can stick together but not to the point where they peel paper off of the next card. You can suffer color loss if you're not careful -- so if you tear into these tear in slowly and carefully.
