He's already joined the Topps Authentics team as one of the top players on the radar of the company's memorabilia division, but a hot start this spring just might have him on the radar of more collectors soon.

He's Hector Olivera, and he's hit .438 (14-for-32) with just a single strikeout in 11 games this spring for the Atlanta Braves, where he's likely to be in left field on Opening Day.

"We've seen him juice some balls, but we don't know if this guy is going to be a nine-home-run guy or a 15-18 home run guy. We might not know that until later this year," said Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He doesn’t take things for granted. There’s nobody that works harder than him. He’s here early, he works, and as coaches, that’s what you want to see and what he gives us."

Update: The documents sold for $3.26 million.

Dr. James Naismith's "Rules of Basketball" from 1891 sold for $4.3 million, while the "Rules of Soccer" from 1859 sold for $1.4 million.

What might previously unknown 1857 baseball documents fetch?

That's what we'll find out soon via SCP Auctions as a set of “Laws of Base Ball” documents from 1857 -- documents that pre-date Alexander Cartwright's contributions to the game -- will hit the market in April.

The author here is Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams, who was the President of the New York Knickerbockers, and the documents' origin has been researched by John Thorn, who has been the official MLB historian since 2011. The documents note guidelines such as the length of base paths, number of players on the field, a nine-inning game and more.

“When Doc Adams set to work in late 1856, none of these aspects of the game were settled,” Thorn said. “This was some seven years after Cartwright had left New York for Hawaii, never to return. For his role in making baseball the success it is, Doc Adams may now be counted as first among the Founding Fathers of Baseball.

“No earlier baseball manuscript of this significance has ever come onto the open market,” Thorn said. “In 1857, baseball made its great leap forward, and these are the documents that reveal what it was like to be present at the creation.”

This year's presidential race is one that's gotten plenty of attention for arguably all the wrong reasons, but no matter which way you lean there's plenty of potential memorabilia if that's your type of thing. (Buzz isn't all that interested but knows some of you inevitably will be, so here we are.)

How?

On the candidates' official websites. That's where you'll find coloring books, ugly sweaters, barbecue gear, caps, shirts, and, of course, plenty of signs and buttons. You'll find koozies, calendars, all kinds of stuff ... and even water bottles. (Some sell anti-competitor items, too, but it might not be who you think taking that approach.) The costs are sometimes low -- but often not -- and, interestingly, only one of the five candidates, Ted Cruz, sells actual autographed items. (The poster above? That's $55, though there's no note of its size.)

There are two ways to look at spring training stats -- they can offer glimpses of reality to come or they can provide false hope.

We're a good ways into this year's slate of spring games and the MLB stat sheet so far shows some hobby-friendly names among the leaders in home runs.

As of today, Maikel Franco and Steven Moya are tops in homers with four apiece -- both good signs as they are young players with star potential who have plenty of cardboard for collectors to chase.

Other established guys like Colorado's Nolan Arenado (.556 average; 10-for-18) have impressive starts as well. Philadelphia's Darin Ruf might get some attention as well, though he's not exactly popular compared to back when he arrived. (Is he a potential bargain to stash? We'll see.)
Sort the stat sheet a different way, and you'll see Atlanta's Hector Olivera with 13 hits and a .433 average, while Detroit's Ian Kinsler has 12 RBI in eight games.
