The new greats and the past greats are both part of the forthcoming Panini America promo card packs that will be available at this year's National Sports Collectors Convention.

On-card autographs from this year's rookie class and the 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction class will be stamped and included in the wrapper redemption packs, according to a company announcement released on Thursday.

Fans of NXT will have a collecting challenge on their hands as the new deluxe edition of a WWE video game will include one of 14 different Topps Relic cards -- each with 10 versions -- inserted as a bonus when purchasing the deluxe version of the game.

The game is WWE2K17 and its NXT Edition is now available for pre-order via WWEShop.com -- and the Topps card is far from the only bonus.

Topps and WWE have joined forces to launch a virtual trading card app for fans of the squared circle.

Topps WWE Slam launched on Thursday for iOS and Android devices, allowing fans to collect and trade virtual cardboard as well as buy tokens to acquire even more packs of cards besides their daily allowance.

"WWE has been an incredible partner with Topps for many years, and we are thrilled to be able to offer WWE fans worldwide a new way to collect their favorite WWE Superstars from today and the past," said Jeremy Strauser, Vice President and General Manager of Topps Digital. "WWE has been at the forefront of pop culture and entertainment for many years and we are excited to add WWE Slam to the Topps apps portfolio."

After a few years on the bench, Upper Deck has revived its retro-styled hockey brand, Champ's, which arrives in hobby shops today with many of the surprises found in brands like today's multi-sport arrival, Goodwin Champions.

Topps Now has a new first today with the first Relic card that's part of the real-time card line.

This time, the card will be limited to only 99 copies on a first-come, first-served basis and it features Eric Hosmer, who was the MVP of the MLB All-Star Game last night.

Unless the Supreme Court opts to hear his case, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be suspended for the first four games of this season for his alleged role in the Deflategate scandal.

This puts the focus solely on Jimmy Garoppolo and the franchise in his hands. He's a guy who has completed 20 of 31 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown in 11 games over two seasons. As a recently drafted rookie found throughout 2014 brands, he's got plenty of cardboard for collectors to speculate with and that got Buzz wondering what you guys thought ...

Panini America's Black Gold brand is changing gears for its next release.

The previously solicited 2016 Panini Black Gold Collegiate was set to arrive as a multi-sport set on July 27 with four autograph or memorabilia cards per two-pack box. Now, it will be a football-only release with the same case price and suggested retail price but with better content for what the company calls an "extremely limited release."

If you're a long-time reader of The Buzz, you should remember sports artist S. Preston, who focuses on the small details and builds artwork around those little things that sports fans see and appreciate.

After a year of waiting for MLB licensing, Preston's work is back with a new series of Minimalist Mascots prints, which are now available with a focus on the fast and furry-ous stars often found running around the ballpark.

The pieces were part of his portfolio back when we first visited his work in December but could not be sold because they were not licensed. Now, though, they are available to fans.

Plenty has changed in the sports card world in the last decade and BlowoutTV had a group break on Monday afternoon that proved it.

The break was a case of 2006 National Treasures football cards -- a case that was made by a company that no longer exists but a lineage that continues today with Panini America.

Getting in on the break wasn't bad -- a four-box case ran just over $100 for two teams per spot -- and it reinforced the notion that old wax can still pack surprises no matter what changes in the hobby.

In fact, the final card in the final box was of a Hall of Famer -- a 1/1 autograph of a Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

The MLB All-Star Game is nearly upon us and that gives us all a chance to take a break and assess the season so far and watch the home runs fly in tonight's Home Run Derby.

One of those sluggers is Cincinnati's Adam Duvall, who has 23 homers out of absolute nowhere and nearly no cardboard to show for it. As previously noted here on The Buzz, Duvall's first Rookie Card arrived in 2016 Topps Series 2. And to show how off the radar he's been he's a third-year big-leaguer with just one past Bowman card appearance -- no autographs -- and this Rookie Card is one that doesn't even have an RC logo. That probably hasn't helped sales, but some rarities are sellers.

There are other big names in the hobby this season who have played well -- in fact there are a lot of decent showings -- but here are 15 who have impressed on the field and should be noticed when it comes to cardboard.

One of the NBA's most-successful big men and under-rated talents has retired.

A member of the San Antonio Spurs for 19 seasons, Tim Duncan was a five-time NBA champ, a two-time league MVP, a three-time Finals MVP, a 15-time All-Star and his next stop will undoubtedly be the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

He averaged 19 points, 10.8 rebounds and three assists a game for his career and retires as the Spurs' career leader in games, minutes, field goals, rebounds, blocks, points and plenty more. He's also a guy who's not signed autographs much at all in recent years as he's turned down impressive amounts per sig from card companies.
