The Class of 2010 when it comes to Bowman baseball cards continues to be a deep one as new stars emerge atop the top arrivals of the past.

Back then it was Stephen Strasburg all day long -- well, at least until his injury -- and since then names like Aroldis Chapman, Max Kepler, Miguel Sano, Shelby Miller and now Gary Sanchez have emerged.

All of those autos and more can be found inside cases of 2010 Bowman Chrome baseball cards and it's one of a few cases that can be found as part of a weekend flash sale over on the mothership.

The Basics: The 700-card 2016 Topps set gets Chromed for a factory set limited to only 250 copies that will only initially be sold via Topps.com. The sets will be Blue Sapphire for the 65th anniversary of Topps baseball cards. More details will come soon -- that or at least the cards will. ... One important nugget? Players who have Superfractors in 2016 Topps Chrome will not have a Superfractor in this release. While card numbers are not the same between Topps and Topps Chrome, that helps keep things simpler for those eyeing Supers and helps the math work out on the production run. Update: The sets are now live on Topps.com with a price of $1,500 per set.

The legend of "Shoeless Joe" lives on.

A PSA 8 copy of Joe Jackson's 1909 E90-1 American Caramel card rocked the auction block on Sunday morning and, along with one other high-grade icon from the past topped a combined $1.1 million in an SCP Auctions sale.

The Jackson sold for $667,189 and is one of only two cards to receive that grade and none are higher.

”We are thrilled with the results of our biggest summer auction to date," said SCP Auctions Vice President Dan Imler. "The market for 'best of the best' sports cards and historic memorabilia continues to show incredible strength.”

We're a couple years removed from The Hobbit movie trilogy's completion on the big screen, but it's pretty clear that the story of Middle-Earth is living on.

The first way to know this is the revealing of the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collectors Edition, a 30-disc set coming soon for the small screen that collects The Hobbit trilogy along with The Lord of the Rings trilogy to create the supreme viewing experience at a premium price. It's $800 for a package loaded with extras -- click the image at right for a hint at what's included.

A second way -- and perhaps the most-important way for collectors -- to know that The Hobbit is living on is to examine the demand for autographs and sketch cards. We're just a few months removed from the third in a trilogy of The Hobbit sets from Cryptozoic and there's plenty of interest.

Gary Sanchez is a rookie for the New York Yankees, though he's been around the baseball block a bit.

He's 23 but he's already got seven years of minor-league experience with two big-league at-bats last season before his call-up this year -- one that's paid off pretty well.

How well? He's got six home runs and 12 RBI while batting .379 in 15 games, tying him for the most-powerful start to a career for a Yankee through 17 games.

“This is a time when he’s going to play and play a lot," Brian McCann told Newsday. He’s a future All-Star. There’s not many guys walking around with his talent. He’s one of the best young catchers I’ve seen since I’ve been in the big leagues.”
