Sometimes there pieces of game-used baseball memorabilia that don't get stashed away as museum-caliber items in private collections or chopped up to make memorabilia cards for our packs of cards.

Poke around online and you can find plaques and other unusual -- but usable -- items that include game-used. Wallets and coasters, for example, have been made with gamer material as part of the mix, but just like cards those novelties that have recently gone high-end and the bat knob you see here is proof.

We're just days away from the hobby arrival of an NFL collecting staple and Panini America has served up a massive teaser of autographs to the found in the brand arriving on Friday.

It's 2016 Panini Contenders and the brand's Rookie Ticket autographs are historically one of the more sought-after sigs in the hobby.

You see this card? My copy of it cost me $15.

It was the summer of 1990 when a new premium set arrived upon the scene with seemingly red-hot wax that was only to be found in one hobby shop far from where I lived. I bought two packs of 1990 Leaf -- and oddly I landed two Ken Griffey Jr. cards, selling one of them for $7 to an adult while standing in line to enter a small card show the following day. That money was used to get a lame vinyl logo baseball for several members of a Rookie League team to sign -- one of them made The Show for some coffee as a Florida Marlin. It might have been the first time I sold a card for "real cash" and it definitely was my first time getting autographs at a show.

I never bought another pack -- and still might not have to this day. That was the sum of my 1990 Leaf experience.

The regular season is now over in the NFL and that means one thing -- we now have final stats.

Ok, ok ... it also means the playoffs.

But for many rookies and players who are important in the hobby and may not be playing this weekend, those final stats are one way to assess whether we should continue to sink our dollars into their cards. Two rookies of note in 2016, Dallas' Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, will still be playing and they lead off our first of 13 Buzz Poll questions all about the NFL this year.
