After 67 years calling Dodgers games, Vin Scully finally gets a Sports Illustrated cover appearance

Vin-Scully-Sports-Illustrated Hey, Sports Illustrated ... what took you so long?

As legendary broadcaster Vin Scully winds down his 67-year run as the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, the 88-year-old Hall of Famer finds himself on the cover of a 62-year-old weekly (and highly collectable) magazine for the first time.

"Vin Scully is only the finest, most-listened-to baseball broadcaster that ever lived, and even that honorific does not approach proper justice to the man," reads a passage from the piece by Tom Verducci. "He ranks with Walter Cronkite among America’s most-trusted media personalities, with Frank Sinatra and James Earl Jones among its most-iconic voices, and with Mark Twain, Garrison Keillor and Ken Burns among its preeminent storytellers."

He earned the game's highest honor for a broadcaster -- the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame -- 34 years ago and somehow the magazine that's been around since 1954 with a cover and space to fill every single week since then hadn't found the time to visit with the voice of baseball.
