With the recent unveiling of Panini America's third Fortnite card set arriving soon, there's a new chance at some new cardboard that could potentially appeal to millions of gamers out there in the world.
It's easy to say that because it's clear that gaming fans out there are grabbing cards from the first two sets and paying prices that should impress. The game has been around since 2017 on a few platforms, but the Epic Games franchise has only been around for two previous card sets from Panini that started in 2019 (see them all here, including the newest). They're still likely off the radar of many collectors, flippers and rippers out there, though, despite the fact that there are cards to be found that have sold for thousands. Why? I think it's the volume of potential fans and the appeal rarer cards can have. It's common sense as there are more fans fighting over those limited number of cards that are available. (You know, like early Pokémon.)
One example. This Series 1 Crystal card of Peely? In a PSA 9 it sold for more than $4,000 -- and it's not alone among notable recent eBay sales.
Yes, some completed eBay auctions might be as real as a $3 bill, but the overall volume and numbers attached are pretty impressive -- even with a limited timeframe of auction results to peruse. This Series 1 Crystal Black Knight card? It attracted 40 bids and ended at $17,877 in December. A search of "Fortnite Panini" on eBay (flip to completeds) show more than 4,400 sold auctions and of those more than 40 topped the $1,000 mark -- and most of those are singles or lots, not boxes. (Boxes aren't often that pricey but some are getting there from Series 1.) Crystal cards are the biggest chase -- check out the price on that Brite Gunner card -- and the newer series added Optichrome-stock cards to make it even more interesting. Promo cards also are strong among completed sales, though they aren't going to be found in the various box formats, which also add to the chase with some card types in some formats. Below the $1,000 plateau, there are many other completed sales -- raw and slabbed -- with pages and pages of sold listings between the $100 and $999 mark.
There are plenty of active auctions for "Fortnite Panini" on eBay, too, with more than 27,000 going right now. Asking prices are far steeper than completeds with the first page of 200 listings ranging from $1,450 up to six figures. Will fans bite? Well, from card to card one never knows ... but with so many game users out there and with headlines left and right about the resurgence of gaming cards from years ago, it's realistic to think that there are people dabbling with the new stuff that they can find in packs. Right now, boxes in a few formats aren't as outrageous in price as one might think, either.

Thru our fb group we've verified sales of a BK Crystal Shard BGS 9.5 for $55,000 last year....also a Series 1 Master Set sold for $175,000...many other 5 digit sales and another master set sold as well for 6 digits.
There was also a BK Crystal Shard BGS 9.5 sold for 24.5 but most of the FB group members tend not to mention a listing if it's not a new ATH.
There’s going to be so many people wishing they got in sooner
