Auction Buzz is a monthly look at some of the variety found out there on the auction block ... check 'em out.
It's going to be a busy end of the year for Dallas-based Heritage Auctions with a number of regularly scheduled events as well as some showcase auctions with high-profile stuff all on the calendar. This time, we look at a few things from a few active sales this month.

ANOTHER BIG JORDAN
The Item: Michael Jordan Oct. 26, 1984 (NBA Debut) Chicago Bulls season-ticket stub (PSA 4)
The Price: $65,000 after 25 bids (ends Sept. 27)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Last month, a Michael Jordan (and Kobe Bryant) card sale via auction re-wrote some hobby history and, while we're confident this one won't fetch $12.9 million, this one is in some rare air. It has already hit its estimated price from the auction house and while its grade is low there are only three higher. "The most important athletic debut of the post-war era?" asked Heritage in its listing. "A strong argument could be made. Perhaps only Wayne Gretzky could challenge Michael Jordan in balloting seeking to identify the most dominant figure of his respective major sport, but once you step outside the sports arena and into the wider popular culture, M.J. leaves The Great One in his dust. He remains one of the most recognizable humans on the planet two decades after his retirement from the NBA." Jordan scored a modest 16 points in a 109-93 win over the Washington Bullets on this night and only 14 of these have been grade overall.

VIEW FROM ABOVE
The Item: Neil Leifer -- Muhammad Ali vs. Cleveland Williams at Houston Astrodome, 1966. Dye coupler print (19-by-19 inches) signed 16/350
The Price: $3,500 opening bid (ends Oct. 3)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Rare prints and fine photography get an auction of their own regularly via Heritage and here's one from a legend in the sports realm taken by a legend in the sports realm, an Ali photo from Sports Illustrated's Leifer, who was the one who captured that other iconic photo of Ali that's regarded as one of the -- if not the -- best sports photo of all time. (The ink from the photographer is on a bottom edge and is nearly faded so not seen here.) This piece is estimated to sell for $7,000 to $10,000 if you're wondering about that market. A number of other photographers' works/prints are in play such as Esquire's Sante D'Orazio, Ansel Adams, Irving Penn and Bert Stern among many others. Check out the opening bids and estimates on that Penn and others here.

HELLBOY'S BIG BOPPER
The Item: Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), Ron Perlman Hellboy screen-used hero "Big Baby" shotgun (with six prop shells)
The Price: $50,000 opening bid (ends Sept. 26)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one comes from a collection of props and other items directly from filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and this one is as oversized as Hellboy's ego. That comic book film franchise is one of several projects touched upon in the auction with artwork, items, this prop and more all up for grabs. This beast is more than two feet long and 19 inches wide so there's no missing its presence. "I wanted a weapon that evoked WWII aesthetics -- a hand cannon with a Tex Avery/Walter Lantz style cartoon on the side," noted del Toro. "Something that could have a nickname -- a slang one -- that Hellboy could just conjure with that Ron Perlman swagger 'I'm gonna need the Big Baby!' I believe that, short of the original hero Samaritan, this is the Holy Grail of Hellboy weaponry."

POKÉMON POWER
The Item: 1999 Pokémon Raichu 14 Unlimited Base Set Prerelease Holo card PSA 6
The Price: $145,000 after 24 bids (ends Sept. 19)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Don't let that grade scare you off ... this one is huge. Here's the story per Heritage: "At the beginning of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's English localization, Wizards of the Coast held early test leagues for trainers to battle against each other. Four pre-release cards were released and awarded through these events, made for the Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket and Gym Heroes expansion sets. While these were the only official WotC pre-release cards, a fifth card was printed but never released to the public. Rumors of the card spread, but it wasn't until 2006 that a photo of the card surfaced, shared by a former WotC employee. The stunning Pre-release Base Set Raichu was said to have been printed on accident during the printing of the Pre-release Jungle Clefable promo, with only a small number said to remain. ... This stunning card, with artwork done by Ken Sugimori, is easily one of the most sought after Pokémon cards in the TCG." This is the first time one of these cards has been sold by Heritage.

HIGH-END ROOKIE HEAT
The Item: Shohei Ohtani 2018 Topps Dynasty rookie patch auto (/10) -- PSA 9/10
The Price: $15,000 after 14 bids (ends Sept. 27)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Ohtani is out there still making some kind of baseball history seemingly every time out but he might have some hype competition this season in Kyle Schwarber, "Big Dumper" Cal Raleigh and Aaron Judge ... but only one of them is a two-way star whose skills could end up fully sh0wcased down the stretch and into the postseason. This high-end MLB debut stuff is obviously -- justifiably -- pricey and this is an example. It's estimated to top the $20,000 mark before the action ends. Those other names are having compelling MVP-caliber years but Ohtani doing it all is historic from here on out ... until he decides he's done.

SPIDER-MAN'S DEBUT
The Item: Amazing Fantasy No. 15 (Marvel, 1962) CGC 2.5 (Off-white pages)
The Price: $12,000 after 24 bids (ends today)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Sure, this is a low-grade copy ... but it's a debut that will always be in high demand because Spidey is as iconic as it gets for Marvel and is a multi-generational favorite of many. This isn't only the origin and first appearance of Spider-Man -- it's the debut of Uncle Ben and Aunt May and it's got some heavyweights doing the creative work in Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. The CGC pop report in this condition was a mere 236 copies earlier this month per Heritage, while 1,137 check in higher. How high will this one go? We find out in around six hours.

BUZZ OWNED THIS BACK IN THE DAY ...
The Item: Shipwreck G.I. Joe figure (Hasbro, 1985) AFA 90
The Price: $525 after 10 bids (ends Sept. 21)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a pop-three figure and none are higher, according to Heritage, and it's one of a number of 1980s creations over in the monthly action figures auction and a number of G.I. Joes from the 1980s. Why did this one make the cut? Buzz is 99.9 percent sure this was his first G.J. Joe figure back in the day -- it coming with a parrot that could clip-on got me ... plus the pickings were often slim at the ol' Pamida store. (If you know, you know.) "This Series 4 release comes on the 36-back card and features the grey file card variant, an early production detail prized by collectors for its rarity and link to the first wave of distribution," according to Heritage. "A pristine example of one of the most beloved characters in the Real American Hero lineup, offering elite-grade appeal for high-end collectors."
