Update: The two Michael Jordan Rookie Cards sold for $738,000 ... each.
--
The action is picking up and the clock is winding down over at Goldin Auctions with some sales records set to be broken tonight and other auction-block scorchers ending tomorrow.
This one is a bit of déjà vu and a broken record about broken records, but this PSA 10 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan Rookie Card you see here is going to set a new mark for the card as it's presently at $300,000 after 15 bids and then will go even higher with the buyer's premium. It's a card that has surged to new highs seemingly weekly as it's an iconic chase item for deep-pocketed new and returning collectors. It set a record (that was then topped) via Goldin in just December when one sold for $215,000. The crazy part? There is a second PSA 10 copy of the same card also up for grabs and doing the same thing ... in this same auction with both ending tonight. (And there are a number of lesser-grade ones, too.)
These cards aren't even the biggest Jordan item up for grabs right now as the Runnemede, N.J.-based auction house has a number of other big-ticket memorabilia pieces and interesting items in its current auction. Don't believe Buzz? Hit that link and look at the first page of huge items ... Jordan leads off with a biggie. If that's not enough, sort 'em by price ... now pick up your jaw.
Keep reading for a deeper look at a few more items presently up for grabs.
MAHOMES MAGIC
The Item: 2017 Panini Patrick Mahomes rookie-year lot (37 cards)
The Price: $220,000 after 11 bids (ends tonight)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Call it the ultimate Patrick Mahomes starter kit for the deep-pocketed dedicated collector out there. This one is described as "is a 37-card complete set of 2017 Panini Patrick Mahomes football cards. With its remarkable 8.98 GPA (9.83 GPA with Top Pop Bonuses), this assembly merits undisputed '#1 Current Finest' accolades on the PSA Set Registry. Of the 37-cards offered here, 28 of them are the highest graded; and four are 'population one' examples." The power here might be in its long-term break-up potential as Mahomes is set to appear in another Super Bowl next week and his place in the game is likely going to lead to fewer card signings ... we've seen this before with Tom Brady except there are a lot more premium card releases now compared to back in 2000. How might that translate in the future if Mahomes continues to dominate? It's a compelling thought ... for somebody who can swing this one. There are a lot of other very notable Mahomes cards to be found in the current auction.

THE MICK
The Item: 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle (BVG 8)
The Price: $161,000 after 21 bids (ends tonight)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is the iconic card for the vintage Topps years so the price tag is justified ... but if ytyou think it's high then click here. Now, which one is the better bargain? They are in theory the same grade of the same card. It should be interesting to see if one catches up with the other when they are both done. Both end tonight.

OH, BROTHER!
The Item: Hulk Hogan 1982 Wrestling All-Stars (BGS 9.5)
The Price: $17,000 after 10 bids (ends tomorrow)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This set is the landmark release for modern wrestling cards and is, in essence, the home to American "Rookie Cards" for a number of stars from the modern era of wrestling. (It wasn't sold in packs and was sold via mail order ... and there are plenty of internationally made oddball cards out there for stars like Hogan but this one is a starting point.) Hogan, Andre The Giant, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes and many others of note can be found here in Series A, while 36 more are in Series B and others in a 1983 release. They are slightly over-sized cards which led to more wear and tear as they were handled through the years, but thanks to a publisher back-stock find (leftovers that didn't sell) years ago razor-sharp copies like this one can exist.

VINTAGE INK
The Item: Jimi Hendrix PSA/DNA authenticated autographed card
The Price: $3,750 after 13 bids (ends tonight)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: While 1980s icons and high-grade vintage are in style more than ever, oldschool pieces from some realms never go out of style. Vintage rock icon sigs are one always-pricey realm but perhaps not in comparison to what's all the rage right now. This Tabernacle Club ticket is apparently an early sig for the legend and he's a lot tougher sig than anybody you've seen above. The final price here could be interesting.
