Book It, Buzz: Landing Gisele Bündchen ink without a big price

For years now, autographed books coming direct from the publishers -- or direct from the authors themselves -- have been an affordable way to collect ink from notable names in all realms of pop culture.

It's not a perfect system with stamped autos, fakes and autopens sometimes in the mix -- a problem for publishers to catch as they are not authenticators -- but thanks to dedicated collectors on the Blowout Cards Forum and elsewhere, those problems often get caught and fixed ... or at least become well-known enough to avoid if it's an issue that goes uncorrected.

Getting ink in-person is always best -- book tours still happen, of course -- but landing autographed editions from publishers, online sellers or celebs themselves via their websites or other appearances are common.

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The celebrity cookbook genre has been around for decades and many a name has created a collection and then signed, sealed and delivered. Heck, even Bündchen's ex, NFL icon Tom Brady, has had a cookbook in the past -- but his $200 book wasn't allowed to go out the door in a mass-signed edition or this cheaply. And that's why we're here. This is, by my quick research, the second book (Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life arrived in 2018) from Bündchen, who rose to fame in the late-1990s as a model who then ascended into pop culture via Victoria's Secret but remained there via film and TV spots, thousands of magazine covers in her career and a lucrative endorsement deal with Under Armour. She's easily among the highest-paid supermodels of all time. Philanthropy and fitness also are passions with proceeds from her first book going to social causes. Simply put, she's known around the world so there are many would-be potential fans of landing her autograph ... and this is an easy way to do so.

Why this item: This obviously is a far more affordable way to land a notable name in pop culture whether you need a cookbook or not. In fact, simple pages cut from these and slabbed by PSA are on eBay now for much higher prices than the books -- even at full price. And price comes to mind with the next step ...

Chase ink on cards: She's known well by sports fans but has had little to no cardboard appearances until just last year where she appeared on a number of 1/1 Leaf Pop Century cards (autographs and proofs) as well as Wild Card Decades preview cards and some other creations from the companies. Recent eBay sales have her inked cards checking in as high as $300 and regularly above $100. Cards have an advantage of images and scarcity ... but landing the ink is also a key part if it, right?

The Bottom Line: A big name added to the stash on the cheap works for me.
