Bryce Harper is headed to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The contract to come? A record-setting 13-year $330-million deal that would lock him in until age 38 and his 20th MLB season.
Harper, who's been on cards since he was was on the USA Baseball 16U team back in 2008, was the 2015 National League MVP when he hit 42 homers with a .330 average. Last year he hit .249 with 34 homers, upping his career total to 184 in seven seasons all with the Washington Nationals.
So, what's next for his cardboard?
The Phillies do not have a mystery autograph or TBD card among the lineup for their Topps Now spring training set, so there's no longer-term spring possibility there (yet). That means that a standard Topps Now card for his signing would be the key starting point for his Phillies cardboard career. Could autographs and/or Relics be possible there, too? It seems possible even if it's just introductory news conference-used material. Or, could he be one of the two mystery autograph redemptions in 2019 Topps Heritage?
In his last decade of cards, Harper has appeared on more than 7,600 different cards and he's got plenty of low-volume autographs that can be found throughout packs in that time, too. He's got more than 1,500 different autographed cards. As for his Rookie Cards, those fall in 2012 -- almost 20 different standard RCs -- from Topps and Panini America with the only autographed one (using standard definition of a RC) is in Triple Threads.
