The Longest Yard, Boogie Nights, The Cannonball Run, Deliverance, Stroker Ace, Hooper.
Those are just some of the movies that actor Burt Reynolds helped bring to life -- and he had plenty more television roles atop those in a career that began in the late-1950s -- but he'll always be known for one iconic role. He was "The Bandit" in Smokey and The Bandit, a tale of the ultimate beer run led by Bo "Bandit" Danville and his battles with the cast of characters who tried -- but failed -- to chase him down.
That chase will continue on film forever without him, though, as Reynolds died Thursday. He was 82.
A former Florida State Seminoles football player (and member of its Hall of Fame), Reynolds regularly appeared on a number trading cards throughout the 2000s -- more than 200 overall -- and was a regular signer in a number of products. His most-plentiful autos (volume-wise though they are mostly low in quantity) can be found in Leaf Trading Cards' Pop Century lines and in Panini America's Americana Celebrity Cuts and Americana releases. In fact, more than half of his cards come with his autograph attached.
His most-recent autographed cards arrived in 2017 Leaf Pop Century -- those were the only cards since his cards in the same release back in 2015. Other appearances include ink in the 2014 Archer set, 2012 and 2014 Pop Century as well as 2011 Panini Americana. Before that? In 2007, 2008 and 2009 Americana releases and autos in a 2003 X-Files set from Inkworks and a 2000 The Twilight Zone set from Rittenhouse Archives.
As for sports sets? Upper Deck included him in its 2008 Upper Deck Icons and 2009 Spectrum of Stars releases on a number of cards and Panini released a pair of autos in 2007 Donruss Elite Extra Edition (baseball with some other sports' notables) in his Florida State football gear. Atop cardboard, his autograph can be found from a number of autograph appearances done in recent years, too.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds was the No. 1 box-office attraction for a five-year stretch starting in 1978. Smokey and The Bandit grossed more than $126.7 million in its run and its sequel did $66.1.
"I didn't open myself to new writers or risky parts because I wasn't interested in challenging myself as an actor. I was interested in having a good time," he wrote in his 2015 memoir, But Enough About Me. "As a result, I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles.
"I always wanted to experience everything and go down swinging," he wrote. "Well, so far, so good. I know I'm old, but I feel young. And there's one thing they can never take away: Nobody had more fun than I did."
