What's Buzz-worthy: A favorite of mine from this era -- and maybe beyond -- are these one-auto-per-box 1992 Pro Line boxes (look for the silver stripe, not jumbo pack boxes that have a gold stripe and guarantee nothing). Why? The ink, but also the creative cardboard you find here that snubs its nose at traditional card sets. The Portraits set is a continuation of the 1991 release in its numbering and feel, while the Profiles take 56 players and tell their stories in nine-card chunks (card pages) at a time. Those are a mix of action, off-field, historic and other oddball photos as well as a painting card with stats for the center pocket of the page. I was able to find a couple of these boxes for what I felt was cheaper than typical price (even the 1991 boxes, which do not guarantee anything are getting pricier than previous junk-wax status) because of the autographs and surprises found here and nowhere else. There are a ton of big and odd finds here including cards for NFL players' wives as well as certified autographs for NFL fans like Muhammad Ali, Milton Berle and Don Mattingly. Ink here was heavily faked in the years after Pro Line's creators closed things up -- sheets without autos and card numbers as well as crimpers have made ink here suspect at times unless you pull them yourself. Other years of Pro Line aren't as creative and don't always pack an autograph in every box and those are reasons why these boxes aren't as easy to find. I'll post another break of one of these here soon -- a normal box -- or in next month's marathon as I landed another Hall of Famer auto there. Not all boxes will deliver as well as this one and that one do, though, as there are a lot of lesser names who signed here but the bigs make it worth a rip. If you can find autos that look good or are professionally graded the prices might be better than you think. As long as the price is right, I'll bust these left and right -- even if the basic cards are super-cheap finds. I like these so much that a few of the key cards you see here will be in graded slabs soon because I think I have some high-grade specimens on my hands. Why? It was one of my favorite brands back in the day -- simple as that -- and I want a few of them in slabs.
