What's Buzz-worthy: "In basketball’s storied history, there may be no single organization more synonymous with the game than the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters" -- that's how the Basketball Hall of Fame describes this legendary team, a 2002 inductee, with legendary results. Sure, their games are exhibition events -- their record unmatched in the sports world -- but the games are not fixed. Ripping into this pack, though, I wondered about this one. First card I saw? Jackie Jackson. Next card? Jackie Jackson. After that? Jackie Jackson. I got a break with a couple of Mel Davis appearances, then a fourth Jackson and then finally a Curly Neal appearance and then a Davis to finish things off. Once I turned the cards over, though, it was apparent that these packs just run in some numeric streaks in order with how players in the set ran. So, if this one is the norm there could be some good money-maker packs out there if you land a streak of group cards, Meadowlark Lemon or Neal cards. The repetition stung a bit here as the the names I know best are the ones with Scooby-Doo tie-ins in reruns from the 1970s. My Neal is the top card here, though Jackson is touted by the team as one of its legends, too, as "one of the highest jumpers and the greatest dunkers of all time." He was drafted into the NBA but instead signed with the Globetrotters. These packs aren't impossible to find but they're not super-plentiful, either, so they'll cost you around or less than a couple of blaster boxes. I checked COMC and most of the bigger names' cards from this 84-card set are roughly $5-20 apiece, though they could be cheaper on eBay. There was a Cocoa Puffs version of the set that has the cereal logo on the back and facsimile autos on a lot of the cards, too, but it seems that both sets are decently sought-after.
Product Grade: A
Pack Grade: B-
Fun Grade: C (repetition wasn't fun here ... could make for amazing results in other packs)
