Do you like Buzz Breaks? Today's your day then as we launch 12 in 12 -- a series of a dozen breaks of past wax boxes and wax packs in a dozen hours. We'll post one every hour on the hour all day long today ... beginning now.
The pack: 1978 Topps Star Wars Series 4
The cost now: $10
The cost then: 15 cents
What's inside this pack? Keep reading ...
Cards per pack: 8 (all cards in gallery below)
Base set completion:
7 of 66 (11 percent)
Duplicates: 0
Inserts: 1
Stickers (1) – Luke Skywalker (X-Wing pilot)
Autographs/Memorabilia: You're kidding, right?
What's Buzz-worthy: You probably know the design from a number of Heritage and other retro-styled releases and you've probably seen these sets here and there in the past but seeing wax isn't as easy as it used to be -- after all, this series is nearing its 40th anniversary. (The film itself is 40 this year as it arrived in 1977.) One chase here? This fourth series is the home to the infamous Goldenrod variation that's arguably the 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken of the non-sports world. That card wasn't to be found in this particular pack among the green-bordered cards, which are from Nos. 199 to 264 in the release. The only other thing found here? One of 11 stickers. I was happy to see a number of Luke Skywalker cards in this pack -- he's a past favorite -- and a couple Princess Leia cameos. They're relatively clean from the packs though the centering of the cards here is distinctly 1970s -- so good luck if you're thinking about grading.
Product Grade: A

[…] Will Hamill be signing on for Topps’ recently released Star Wars Authentic line of officially licensed photos? He’s not there yet, though the new generation of stars from the new films can be had there. Perhaps more of the original cast members will show up there soon — after all, it’s the 40th anniversary of the franchise this year. There’s another typical way of nabbing an autograph, too. Here’s an example. Need a Darth Vader? David Prowse sells signed photos on his website — a common option for celebs these days, though Hamill doesn’t do that, either. I’m pretty Hamill doesn’t signs through-the-mail, either — he’d be signing for months on end if he did — but I have a fresh 1978 Topps card or two I could try. […]
