What's Buzz-worthy: The thrill of victory ... the agony of defeat. That sums up one pack in this box -- a very early and relatively rare (for the time) Kobe Bryant autograph that would have been mine ... had I opened the box 22 years ago. It's a miracle this box lasted this long as the memorabilia redemption cards -- one per box with the chance at signed jerseys, plaques, helmets and more as teased on the lid -- along with the guaranteed ink, which was at least two autos (standard) and likely a third (Gold) based on the odds. Just 18,000 boxes of this were made -- this one was No. 12,502 -- and I considered this price low. Sure, redemptions were a given with the memorabilia (they were dead as of Jan. 1 1998) and Score Board is long gone, but the lure of autographs here should be impressive as that roster of base set players is echoed with the ink. Among the signers? Ray Allen, Bryant, Vladimir Guerrero, Eddie George, Allen Iverson and a bunch of "names" at that time who didn't pan out as well. The memorabilia items list (see gallery) is an impressive one, too, in both all-time greats and top draft picks at the time. I'm not sure how many cards in this one were redemptions -- or how many Kobe cards were signed once they were live as the numbering doesn't jive with mine -- but it was a fun find immediately followed by instant disappointment and maybe a rare expletive or two. But, hey, after all these years I finally pulled a Kobe auto.
