Autographs/Memorabilia: None ... but that would be cool, right?

What's Buzz-worthy: So, what's the deal with these? Well, when this legendary rock band -- one already in the Hall of Fame -- played a pair of shows at Wrigley Field and Fenway Park a few years ago they made 1991 Topps-styled "baseball" cards showing the members of the band as part of their concert merchandise (posters, shirts, etc). They were such a hit, they've done them again with this trio of pack formats each being for a 60-card set unique to each of the three locations last year but using the 1990-91 NBA Hoops design. (Why? Why not? They even came in wax boxes ... ) We don't get any Shawn Kemp or Danny Ferry cameos in these packs -- or any Mark Jackson cards -- but we do get the six members of the band and a producer card that shows the completed puzzle image that's found on the backs of these. And that one he's a bit of a rebel, wearing Atlanta Braves gear and not one for the home team. (I only pulled him in one of the three sets so I don't know how that holds up.) These are a fun rip with a big draw being, at least to me, the Eddie Vedder cards where he's batting -- I don't care what the two I got will grade ... they are heading into slabs. Each member has a team card in each set but most are concert shots. The Topps-styled sets are rarer and therefore pricier -- pricier than you might expect -- and they were also heavily graded. These? Not as much but the novelty of the packs can mean asking prices that are a good chunk higher than what I paid. The packs are paper but are securely sealed. There's no wax staining to worry about but the top card will have some surface damage more times than not thanks to the sealer. The silver-edge design is one that will showcase flaws easily but these are smoothly cut and clean for the most part, save for centering. How did the Vedder volume break down? Well, I pulled as many as four of him in one pack en route to 17 total. Not the highest, not the lowest. The rarest band member in my run of packs? I got just eight Aments and 19 Gaspars. I figured 10 packs was enough for me to yield a few bucks -- part of me wants to collect 'em all, at least for one of the sets. We'll see.
