What's Buzz-worthy: I know what you are thinking here ... it's "Why?" Well, Signature Rookies releases from around this time always get my attention with an autograph in every pack ... even if it's merely draft picks. Why? Nearly all sets (nearly) include somebody big and the biggest auto in this one is from Kevin Garnett and it's still a pretty notable auto overall and it would have been huge to land one here. I found this box -- one of only 8,250 made (how many might be left?) -- for less than $5 a pack and that was a lot less than they were back in the day as this brand was the company's premium release. (Hence the encased autographs and the box pack format.) Collation here was wacky across the board (to be expected) with not even the 10-card Top Ten set completed and plenty of dupes in every area. I was a much bigger fan of their football boxes back in the day so I didn't dabble much here -- maybe a pack or two -- but I do remember these not really impressing me much more than their lower-end counterparts. But Garnett made this one big back then. The packaging here is not flaw-free -- the cards are glossy so they can stick and be damaged from packs and/or curl around the encased card -- but this one is ultimately about the autos. More than a few guys here played in the NBA and I landed most of the notables in the base set other than Brent Barry, Bryant "Big Country" Reeves and George Zidek. (Remember him?) These boxes are sealed closed with a hologram sticker and you pretty much have to tear them apart to open them so I don't suspect any tampering but there were a few autos I wouldn't have minded finding beyond Garnett. Among notable signers in the tougher Hoopla auto set are Antonio McDyess, Jerry Stackhouse, Rasheed Wallace and Garnett. Standard autos also include Barry, Michael Finley, Garnett, Jimmy King, McDyess, Cherokee Parks, Theo Ratliff, Bryant "Big Country" Reeves, Shawn Respect and Corliss Williamson. And Top Ten cards also have autos ... but I'm not 100-percent sure those went into these packs or not -- but they exist. Very few autographs here will cost you more than a couple bucks at this point -- and many might be pocket change -- but I think an autograph in every pack is fun no matter what the era. (Or ... maybe you just had to be there.)

Product Grade: A- (Kevin Garnett ink is a huge deal here)
Box Grade:
 C
Fun Grade: B (Not a great box .. but the autograph volume at what I paid was still fun even if they are cheap.)

What's next? Be back in an hour ...

What are you going to do with the Eric Snow autograph card? I went to Michigan State with him (had multiple classes with him and we were friends) and would love to add it it to my MSU collection. Please let me know.

    Thanks

    Brian
