What's Buzz-worthy: I'll be honest ... nobody jumped out at me from this box, but my 1/1 is of a Pirates pick who played two seasons (nobody played last year), while Wilcox was a third-round pick of the Padres, Thomas was a second-rounder and Austin Wells was a first-rind pick of the Yankees last year. Atop that, Haskin was a second-round pick of the Orioles, Tresh and Harmon still playing college ball as are a number of guys in this box. As I noted the last time I ripped one of these, there's one name that got me to dabble here is Justin Fields, the Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback who's headed to the NFL Draft after a journey that included a spot here as a prep baseball All-Star, time with the Georgia Bulldogs where he was on their team that came up a win short of the national title against Alabama and then a transfer to Ohio State where ... he came up a win short of the national title against Alabama. Another big name for this one? Vanderbilt's Kumar Rocker who could be the top pick in the MLB Draft. There's big potential here but it's also a big checklist ... so these releases are for the most-avid of prospector as those big names get spread around. (I just like hits, myself, and the price wasn't bad for a Fields chase.) The checklist here is pretty huge -- roughly 300 names -- and the checklist includes a number of parallels for all of them. Thomas and Wells seem like my better cards here but really releases like this one get the most attention around draft time when new players get new teams and these (or USA Baseball) are their only cards. The best news with baseball that one might not think about compared to our sports? Players can be drafted more than once, giving these sets a longer shelf life ... one reason why they often disappear fast.
