What's Buzz-worthy: You probably saw me rip some of these just recently and that's because USA Baseball releases are affordable and a good way to land ink of top prospects without breaking the bank -- future prospects, too. Spikes, for example, is headed to the Tennessee Vols when he graduates from high school this year, while Jack Leiter (son of two-time World Series winner Alois) is a potential No. 1 overall pick this year after playing for Vanderbilt. Meanwhile, Callahan was a third-round pick (Reds), Agnos was a fourth-rounder (Yankees) and Pallante was a fourth-rounder (Cardinals) in 2019. That's not all ... Langeliers was taken with the ninth-overall pick (Braves), while Carroll was taken 16th (Diamondbacks) and Thompson was 19th (Cardinals) in that same draft. Not a bad run of autos there. Heck, two of the four Japanese players here are pros in Japan -- Morishita went 10-3 with a 1.91 ERA and more than a strikeout per inning this year as a rookie for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. ... This format gives you a full set along with two autos and an insert, while hobby boxes give you at least five hits per box with more possibilities for hits, some parallel cards but a smaller volume of base. The set includes the last two No. 1 overall MLB Draft picks in Adley Rutschman and Spencer Torkelson as well as others of note -- and most (if not all) have autographs. If you rip with some volume, you're likely to land a mess of young MLB prospects for a fraction of the price of a Bowman release. There might not be any other prospect-level auto out there that's fully licensed and more undervalued than USA stuff -- and sets have been loaded with first-rounders and other high picks in recent years.
