What's Buzz-worthy: For #TBT this week, I dipped back into my small stash of these packs and, well, this one is the best of the bunch. Why? Well, in its time and in some years since so many names here were bigs. Mark McGwire's first MLB-uni card (not his Rookie Card) is a memorable one here as is the Will Clark and others found in this pack. Throw in a crop of Hall of Famers and All-Star cards and this one was relatively tight. Throw in some 1986 World Series names, too, and this one would have been big back then. ... These 36-year-old packs aren't rare -- stuff was made by the truckload for months -- but it's still good for what it is -- or as a reminder that the card world has changed a lot since then. Back then Topps basically put out one main set a year and then an update to it and various smaller boxed sets here and there for the year. That meant plenty of these got made between wax packs, rack packs, cello packs, jumbo packs, vending boxes and factory sets. ... I paid about $1.40 a pack -- still might be high but the overall volume was good for the price (seven for $9.99) so I bit. The others may or may not pop up here soon -- this one was the best of the bunch -- but this one is a classic worth a look back from time to time.
Product Grade: A- (the wood borders remain unique here and list of RCs/Hall of Famers in this one is stacked)
Pack Grade: A
Fun Grade: B (good names but times have definitely changed)
