What's Buzz-worthy: For this week's #TBT break, I went with a pair of packs that at this point mean one thing and not a whole lot else -- chasing Rookie Cards. There are a few of note here but the only one that's truly strong in its raw form is Ken Griffey Jr. There are other Hall of Famer RCs here, too, but John Smoltz and Randy Johnson aren't quite as up there in interest as Junior is. These two packs were a little odd in that one was purely purple-border cards -- that's the Griffey color -- and then the other was split between purple and green. Could there have been tampering? Maybe -- wax paper is wax paper -- but I do remember oddities like this happening back then. There were only two cards with wax stains though just one card of the bunch had one of the asterisk variations in the bunch -- a little suspect but I don't care as these weren't pricey and I don't think I need to rip a box here. I got some firm 1980s star power here as well as some names who were big at that time like Sabo and Gibson as well as two rookies who had hype at other times here though the years. Ultimately, this pair was average at best ... but I think this one isn't a bad throwback rip in some volume ... I like cellos and rack packs more.
Product Grade: A- (home of the Griffey Jr. RC helps a lot)
Lot Grade: C (very average this time)
Fun Grade: C (these need to be ripped in volume ... and I prefer cello or rack packs)
