What's Buzz-worthy: Buzz picked this one up back during the Black November sale -- when they were in stock and on sale for less than $10 -- but after a lackluster rip with tons of dupes (as many as four copies of some cards) and some dramatic miscuts in the mix for a big chunk of the box (see last card in gallery) I decided to save this Buzz Break for another day. With the untimely death of Betty White at 99, though, I figured I'd work this one into the lineup as, yes, she's in here along with many other members of the Hollywood Walk of Fame as it looked back in 1990. While cheap, this release is a landmark one for celeb non-sports sets as there are so many people here all in one spot who are legends in TV, film, publishing, radio and music. The list above and the gallery below don't do this one justice at all ... meanwhile it's also a set that is nothing but base cards. There are no inserts -- unless you count variations that may or may not exist for seven cards in this set (all mine were errors) -- but imagine if this one had somehow had autographs in the mix. This would have been a monster. It's always been a popular set for through-the-mail autograph collectors out there and you will see that with an eBay search. I got most big names but definitely not everybody as the collation in this box was really wonky on that front. Card backs note career achievements and basic bios along with a general trivia question on every card and answered on a different one. This set was made as it was licensed by the Hollywood Walk of Fame -- I'm not sure it would happen these days as people would want paid for their presence in a product people are selling -- but it's interesting to ponder what a new version of this set might look like. Yes, it's a bit dated but there's so much in this one -- check out the names in the gallery ... and I could easily included 50 more.
