What's Buzz-worthy: Finding the regular boxes of this one won't be the easiest thing to do out there but even tougher might be one of these boxes made just for the 16th National Sports Collectors Convention -- and just 6,000 numbered boxes were made. Mine, No. 2,668, included the one-per-box auto in the first pack, making this a bit of an anti-climactic break but the one-per-pack relatively rare (for the era /575 is rare) parallels only found here did offer some highlights and good volume. (I haven't looked at whether these sell well across the board but they have a lot more potential than the standard commons as ProLine boxes got shredded hard for the ink.) ... As mentioned in a past break of the standard stuff, this was the fifth year of Pro Line football cards but just the third year to step away from the Zubaz-showcasing portraits of the first sets. This design is a tad bland among the Pro Line canon with the year before and the year after having some of the best designs in the history of the brand. These have a full-bleed photo with a simple name bar on the bottom. It's also a set where, if you look carefully, there are some pixelated images where it's clear they were transitioning into the digital realm with photography here. It's a distraction at times but generally not that big of a deal because the base cards really aren't the biggest emphasis. The key here? One autograph per box. Guaranteed. If you can find the standard boxes at a cheaper price -- this one was a tad more than a couple blasters, which still seemed good to me -- it's worth it for a shot at autographs alone. There's ink of Troy Aikman, Drew Bledsoe, Tim Brown, Randall Cunningham, Boomer Esiason, Marshall Faulk, Charles Haley, Craig Heyward, Michael Irvin, Jim Kelly, Jay Novacek, Andre Reed, Emmitt Smith and many more lesser names from a strong era for football cards. There are so many notables to be found here -- though you may enjoy it more if you were collecting back then.
Product Grade: B+ (regular release grade)
Box Grade: A- (National insert rarity helps here)
Fun Grade: B+
