What’s Buzz-worthy: Want a break that coughs up a ton of variety a la Allen & Ginter or Goodwin champions and delivers an autograph in every box, a mem card in every box and a mini in every pack? That's this one -- an it's a dirt-cheap option available right now with some decent up-side, too. Panini America did this one for three years and this is the final edition that is perhaps second of the three on my list. (Schedule-willing, I'll rip the other two years this week so you can see them all here.) This box included ink for a former MLB slugger -- a card that has sold for as much as $54 recently on some sites while the only one on eBay has a $49 asking price -- and memorabilia for one of The Brady Bunch kids. The base set is a who's who of historic newsmakers with nods of pop culture into the 1970s and 1980s. Athlete-wise, some athletes are even more recent than that. The gallery below offers a tiny sampling of what was in this one and a number of those (living) names can be found with autographs while others have memorabilia cards. It's not the best Golden Age lineup but it's a good one -- though the base card design is a little overwhelming. (The minis work better.) There are a number of potential inclusions here for box-toppers, including memorabilia cards that you can see here, and other things not found in this brand that include variations, rarer parallels of a couple types, buyback autographs and even some musical memorabilia cards (but those are only in retail boxes). I busted a ton of this one at retail since the blasters had a mem card in every box (and sometimes also included ink) but the hobby boxes are pretty safe if you rip a few. Other years have better big-hit potential among the autos but some of the signers here include Ernie Banks, Bo Derek, Jake LaMotta, Catherine Bach, Frank Robinson, Dick Van Dyke and D. Wayne Lukas to name a few. The price of this one makes it a low-end box these days but it can deliver pretty well -- I'd rip a case, myself, but they are 20-boxers and that makes them a little pricier than the typical lower-end release.
