What's Buzz-worthy: There's one name that got me to dabble here ... Justin Fields, the Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback who's headed to the NFL Draft after a journey that included a spot here as a prep baseball All-Star, time with the Georgia Bulldogs where he was on their team that came up a win short of the national title against Alabama and then a transfer to Ohio State where he came up a win short of the national title against Alabama. Another big name for this one? Vanderbilt's Kumar Rocker who could be the top pick in the MLB Draft this year. Some players in these sets don't make the next step, some go on to college ball, some get drafted ... some get drafted more than once. For prospectors, this one is a deep dive but my quick search of names in this box showed Jordan Groshans as a strong prospect with big-league potential soon for the Blue Jays and Slade Cecconi drafted 33rd overall by the Diamondbacks last year. Others are in the minors or in college and still playing, though last year's COVID scenario took its toll on baseball seasons at all levels. The checklist here is pretty huge -- roughly 300 names -- and the checklist includes a number of parallels for all of them. I'll admit I don't prospect hard like most who would be ripping into these boxes but the Groshans card seems like one that will pay for a good chunk of the box and, well, that should help things come out pretty well considering the overall volume here. Had I landed a Fields, it pays for the box (or a box and a few more depending on which version). I took my shot at him with this one and didn't get one ... but we'll see how things look for my second box -- during next month's #Buzz8in8 breaks marathon day.
