What's Buzz-worthy: I don't regularly break the $100 barrier for boxes but I did (barely) on this one but that's because its contents are essentially a given -- it says what's inside on the front of every box ... a game-used bat card and three slabbed 1/1 proofs. I'm a sucker for the feel of proof cards in slabs -- and I've opened the Pop Century proof boxes to prove it -- and this one added a bat card (not a bench card) atop that. It's not necessarily a big money-maker kind of box -- perhaps if you land one of the rarest colors or strong photos -- but this is a pretty safe box since Ruth will always be in some type of demand out there. There's also a finite number of boxes that can be made for his one -- each color of parallel for a set that consisted of 50 cards. The standard cards have printing plates (not likely here) and then 18 parallels by my count so maybe 300 boxes max? A number of these proofs have sold for $40 on their own on eBay (lows under $20) with a recent high of $49.99 for the Prismatic (looks like Superfractor) version, so you could come out ahead here if there's somebody out there chasing them all and you land whatever version they might need. I like my mix here but think my memorabilia card might have the best photo. All in all, this felt like a comfortable box. Would I pay substantially more than I did? Probably not but if it were to dip I might do more.
