What’s Buzz-worthy: This new arrival at retail this week is one that's been revamped quite a bit and reloaded with a heavy Rookie Card presence -- they might dub this one The Home of the NFL Rookie Card it's that much. Literally half of the cards in this box were RCs and then there was a rookie auto and a parallel atop that. I landed a few big names but perhaps not the biggest ones here, so it's not a given that a 100-card rookie base presence will mean loaded boxes. It will take you a few to land them all -- and I still like the feel here. The design of this one is strong to me -- a 1990s feel with a crisp use of foil-stamping and a design that includes last year's as well as career stat totals. The rookies and inserts are on foilboard so they jump out at you quickly and the hit in this box was one of the various shades of rookie autographs. I haven't studied the checklist intensively yet but this one looks like it's a pretty strong one for retail after there were some really, really dry blasters on the retail front for this one in past years. If you didn't land a hit, you were in trouble in the past. Meanwhile, this year it's a guarantee and ink is clearly possible. Hobby boxes remain a hits-driven approach but if you like standard RCs this is a format to look at. I will have more to say when I rip more ... and I will.
