What's Buzz-worthy: I previously busted a FOTL box for this one, but the blasters can deliver pretty well for the price with a pair of autographs every time and parallels are possible as you can see with this box. I landed ink for a pair of drafted players -- not always the norm with these releases -- and the rest of the box was loaded with big-name players from the past on the base cards and a small amount of inserts. While I wish the insert volume was higher, the inserts here aren't exactly the flashiest inclusions. The base cards are nice -- it would be good to see a better mix of non-auto newcomers and old-timers in both the base and inserts but Contenders has never been built that way. As said before, the stock is on the thin side that shows issues with corners and edges well on both fronts and backs -- and even on the ink. The value feels like it's there, though, even with these if you rip in volume -- I'd think you should find some names or parallels relatively often here. The card backs, even for the autos seem to have a little more info than in the past, which is a plus, so ultimately it just comes down to who you land as to whether you get a good box. On the collecting and general card side, I'm comfortable with this release as a good example of college cardboard.
