What's Buzz-worthy: Playbook hits the retail aisle once again with a somewhat premium price of $29.99 and that's really about the only question ... why? It likely means that there is a better shot at autographs more often here but the boxes guarantee only an autograph or a memorabilia card. The basic Rookie Cards are only found here in retail, not in the hobby boxes, but that also doesn't seem like that big of a deal for an added price as there's just not a lot going on in these boxes even with a heavy RC presence. On the other hand, it could make the key cards interesting ones to watch down the line -- that should mean there are fewer basic RCs for this release compared to other brands. ... This box actually included more RCs than anything else -- that does make them interesting breaks but they still feel a tad risky for the extra-money price if you land a memorabilia card and a basic rookie lineup. Also only found at retail are Green, Gold and Red parallel cards -- none here -- but I did get some decent names among the inserts, RCs and an auto instead of a mem. That makes this box a win to me, though the stack of cards is tiny here. I also wonder whether the color scheme and/or stock could be reconsidered as the dark colors and skinny, soft stock are a recipe for cards that are tough to grade. I like the overall feel here, though it's not perfect -- the good stuff like deluxe booklets and ink that this brand is known for. Hit hobby boxes at the link above for that.
