What's Buzz-worthy: I never picked this one up out in the retail wild back when it arrived last year, but I did grab this hobby box with a hit per pack in the "NASCAR is Back" sale that launched last weekend -- and one that might be back soon so keep your eyes open over in the store. You get a pair of autos and a pair of mem cards here, while the base set is subset heavy and the insert lineup beyond that a little lean. (That's OK as it all feels like they're inserts when ripping ... they're just numbered differently.) There are some notables to be found here for sure but my box seems like it could have used a bigger name in the hits, though the Red card is rarer and looks pretty solid with a pinstriped patch piece. On-card autos are a plus here as are the multi-piece mem cards, too. The base set is all etched, embossed foilboard here -- a nice touch as long as they arrive without nicks. (For the most part, they did.) The bronze color of the base set seems like it could have been better (but there are parallels to make up for it). All in all, I liked this one better than I had thought and it makes me wonder how the retail boxes might deliver in comparison. Hobby is the best way to go with guaranteed ink, but the blasters also might deliver well. We'll see ... I'll probably dabble more with both formats at some point if they present themselves.
