What's Buzz-worthy: This one feels a lot different than one of my past Star Trek breaks with one simple statistical comparison. This box? Four inserts. A past Trek box I opened from this same company? A total of 16. This change is because there aren't really any regularly arriving parallels or meaty insert sets in this release. Why? This is the debut for thsi series, while the sets that had more inserts from the past were looking back at other parts of the Star Trek franchise. That said, I get it -- but this release definitely needed more to break up the box. A lot more. That said, I landed a solid box in that it included a uniform relic card -- one in 96 packs -- as well as one auto that's very limited (albeit with some spots on the card). The mem card is also solid as it appears to have stripes off the subject's uniform as you can see in the photo on the card. "Limited" might also reflect my knowledge of this series so far -- I've just seen some basic snippets -- but the price of this one got me to bite as it can deliver well for a pretty modest price. That might not last, though, as there were just 6,000 serial-numbered boxes of this one made. (This was box No. 2,017 by the way.) You get several cards per episode here so there's a good mix of visuals but there are also some rough cuts and bad bottom-right corners to be found on the soft stock here, too -- a bit of a bummer but not the end of the world unless you're somehow pondering grading, which may not be likely on base cards. The rest of the inclusions aren't super-flashy and also can have some stock/cutting issues but one highlight is the acetate stock Characters cards -- not a design with the most variety but they are pretty cool and different. Just like the series, this one is worth a look and it can deliver some surprises.
