What's Buzz-worthy: The finale for this membership is a design that was mocked up in the past but never used and made the cut after a vote among the members for both the design and the player checklist. All in all, I'm fine with this one as it was the set I voted for and the player list is pretty solid -- current young stars, key rookies and top-tier legends. Only one player I felt dipped down but he's one with MVP honors on his résumé but overall no worries on this one. The set also arrived with a 700-card stamped factory set that has some of this year's key rookies on cards with a foil stamp -- they are selling well in early auctions both sealed and as team sets with some prices that are definitely making people some money on their membership. The checklist notes that there will be a Year Two for this program so that announcement should be coming at any time -- if it's the same price for a similar lineup, then I'm probably in. It hasn't been the flashiest series of small sets but a couple of them seemed better to me, though the vintage approach with the club (showcasing original old designs) does limit some things. This comes after the fourth third set of cards sent to members of 582 Montgomery Club and that followed a Bazooka-feeling previous set with ink, after a set of stickers before that and the first set that had an autograph chase. The auto I landed here isn't the most-popular hobby guy out there, but he's the best ink I've landed this year so that's a good finish. Hopefully Year Two can include a little more chase, perhaps an inclusion or two with a higher-end feel even if chase cards (or a random Brookyn Collection single card worked in somewhere?) and perhaps a stamped version of the Update set or something that combines all series highlights-wise like the checklist for Topps 3D or Topps minis? Just a thought. All in all, I think the $199 membership was a decent value here in terms of the volume of what one got and the names. I'd probably give it an A-/B+ overall grade -- an easy A if I had had any luck with my previous autos.
Product Grade: A- for this set (a solid A for the stamped factory set)
Box Grade: A-
Fun Grade: B+
