From time to time, Buzz will break a box of something and post the results here. Like this and want to see more? Or maybe there's a box you'd want to see busted? Send Buzz an email at BlowoutBuzz@blowoutcards.com.
The box: 2019 Topps Archives Signature Series Active Player Edition baseball cards
Where to buy: BlowoutCards.com
Packs per box: 1
Cards per pack: 1
Base set completion:
N/A
Autographs/Memorabilia: 1
Autographs (1) – Freddie Freeman 2007 Bowman (/4) (click for a closer look)
What's Buzz-worthy: Not a bad find here -- a player's first Bowman card with some ink added. And not just any player, a franchise kind of guy (at least among the Braves' older guys) in the midst of a career year. The only drawback with releases like these? The occasional card that's not autograph-friendly with its background (this one is sort of that way) and then if you're a little more nit-picky like me then cards with facsimile autos as part of the design. (I prefer to not have the competing handwriting samples on the same card.) However, since this is a first Bowman card that trumps the facsimile hang-up in my mind a bit. ... These encased buyback cards aren't wrapped in any way inside the boxes so once you flip the lid you know what you have -- and, to me, that's the fun part of this relatively affordable product that has upside to it due to scarcity of card volumes signed and a number of notable names possible on the signers list. This box is a solid one given the player and the scarcity. A lot of boxes won't be big winners since there are young players possible here and some have some volume to them but there are also boxes that will over-deliver well for the price. I like the format but haven't dug in too much. If this type of release hit retail and was in front of my face regularly, I'd probably do more -- especially if the inner card was wrapped and not visible the second you open the lid.
