What's Buzz-worthy: This Walmart find ($34.98) follows the exact pattern as last year's special retail box did in 2018, but last year there seemed to be a better flow of the variations with my first box coughing up a few. This one? None. They aren't guaranteed, though, as missing nameplate is one in 28 packs, logo swap is one in 38 and Bazooka backs are one in 76. The short-prints don't even fall one per box at one in 20. The Indigo parallel here -- a card that definitely didn't wow me -- is one in 30 packs. The other variations and short-prints are far tougher pulls to the point where I simply chucked the box than read further. Your best bet by far here is hobby with two autographs per box and a better flow of the variations. This one follows the format of previous years for sure but it still didn't feel as meaty. Those missing minis would add to the chase here but they seem long gone from a few years ago. The colors here are rich but the simplicity found on the backs seems lacking -- this is a brand that could use some simple touches like modern stat lines to give it a modern-vintage feel that I think it's working toward with its rich colors and new inclusions such as hobby Chrome box-topper packs. Yet it feels like it comes up a tad short here. You get more volume with these boxes but they don't feel all that flashy -- not even compared to the Heritage mega boxes. Hobby is the way to go with this one unless you need to finish off a set or aren't sure and just want to sample -- then the mega might be your route to success at retail. There are good things possible here -- they'll just take some luck to land. One other thought to finish on, though ... the mystery autograph redemptions here could be huge once they are announced. I'd chase those in hobby, too.
