What's Buzz-worthy: The Smackdown show moved to Fox on Friday nights last week and a new set with a focus on the recent stars of that show arrived this week. It includes current stars as well as others from the show's 20-year history with a simple approach that includes a hit per blaster, a couple inserts per pack and a cleaner look than some other WWE sets this year. In my mind, some of the basic WWE sets haven't stood out from the pack this year from a design perspective -- not because they aren't unique (they are so that's a plus) but because the framework seemed to distract from the feel of the card's most-basic mission ... to show the subject of the card. This release feels a little more comfortable but still has a different approach to its photo framing and the parallels truly jump out at you from the pack, which is good. The card backs aren't that great here -- they almost feel like they don't match as they are in black and white -- but that's being picky. The Women's Revolution cards are only found in Walmart boxes (the blaster shown above is a different version mock) and offer some extra looks at notable events alongside the hit in those packs. This box's big highlight is a 20th Anniversary foil-stamped parallel -- one in 346 packs or 35 boxes -- while the parallel hit is one in 10 boxes. The stock here feels a tad stronger than basic Topps releases of the last year or so and the edges and cuts seem cleaner, too, though it's not a dramatically thicker stock. These still feel like they need another insert or different kind of card worked into the mix to help make it a little more fun, but there's nothing deficient here. The hobby boxes guarantee ink every time as well as a second hit so I'd probably go that direction first if you can.
