What’s Buzz-worthy: Buzz doesn't bust a lot of hockey but I grabbed this one fearing my retail Buzz Break options might be limited this next week or two -- there wasn't much new -- but this one paid off pretty well. It included a Alexis Lafreniere Rookie Card among the short-printed cards and then a Silver parallel of a Wayne Gretzky. The rookie pays for the box and earlier eBay sales of that card paid for a few. There might be others of note in this box, too, but about the only names I truly recognized were among the veteran SPs ... that's more on me being an NHL dabbler on a very limited basis, though I've never been a big fan of loading up the best names for an SP portion of a set -- in any sport. This retail-only release is relatively simple and has a very modern MVP-style look and feel to it vs. a retro Parkhurst name but I think it works. The base set is 220 cards with 110 SPs, rookies and legends atop that flow pretty regularly here ... but not too easily. With 30 RCs and perhaps this volume the norm you'll still have to open about five blasters to land them all if you have perfect collation. One thing to chase here are autographs in a few sets but they are tougher pulls starting at one in 400 packs. They aren't easy but they are in there. This seems like a solid release to chase key cheaper cards, play the slabbing game and see how it goes, though there's no doubt that Young Guns RCs will win every time. I liked the oldschool inclusions along with the new guys ... gives it a good feel here. That might get me to dabble here once more vs. the flagship stuff if I see them.
