What's Buzz-worthy: Man, is this one different than its NBA counterpart ... some likely on purpose and some likely very much not so. The biggest change here when you see it will be the outer wrap -- no black Panini bar logos but with a red security sticker holding each box closed underneath. Inside? Two black black boxes with silver stickers holding them shut ... no wrappers, no logos, nothing. A quick glance at the front of the box here notes that all of this was likely a late change likely due to supplies issues or the need to expedite this one perhaps faster than its packaging plant could pull off. Printed on the box is four cards per pack, 10 packs per box. A sticker was placed upon that saying two mini-boxes per mega box and 20 cards per mini-box. Very different. An even bigger difference here? The price was $55 instead of the $40 it was last time for NBA -- and this time the boxes actually include half as many cards. The price hike I noticed right away -- I'm not sure it will deliver constant bargains at that higher rate -- but the second I only realized after ripping and comparing. The volume being lower isn't necessarily a bad thing -- it should help the singles values here some assuming that a relative similar volume of boxes was made. (I'm speculating here, but one thing that should be almost always said about Mosaic NBA on the singles front is "available. This could help soften that. However, if that just means more boxes here vs. there? Well, we'll see how that works out over time ... NFL could end up being more popular if we're looking beyond just RCs.) I was able to land a pair of boxes today -- and this one is far, far better than the other. That does make me wonder whether I got a freaky good box and a freaky bad or even average box -- or whether the norm is somewhere in between. The RCs in this one were quite good and I landed some solid names on the parallel front, too, while the more standard parallels were full of key names. The Roger Staubach Pink card was a solid find, too, that should be pretty rare in terms of how often they are found in this format. This box was worth the price for sure this time. Next box? We'll see -- but I wasn't left with the greatest of impressions. If you want guaranteed ink and more color and possibilities, spring for hobby or FOTL -- there are some huge possibilities there. (I'm more casual on football these days and more of a school/player collector to go all in on pricier boxes, myself.) All in all, this was an A+ start of a box. I also found some hanger boxes for this release, so you should expect to see more Buzz Breaks of Mosaic in the coming week or two. I'll offer more thoughts then.
