What's Buzz-worthy: Buzz got his first taste of this one yesterday with a Walmart Mega Box that I busted here and I figured I'd follow things up with a pair of hangers I landed at the same time. (I'm not spacing them out as I managed to find five more that were left for the kids at a different store. This time, I'm "the kids" since I had to wait to find these.) The usual black-box format inside the boxes is also in play for this format though it's not as jarring here as these are one-pack boxes. This format is the home to Reactive Orange Prizm parallels -- not the biggest fan of these as the color blends in too much -- and also rookie variations. I landed one here, though almost missed it. It just struck me as different since, for starters, he was in his college uni when everybody else was Photoshopped. That's one clue but not always a key to spotting one. These boxes are almost as much as a blaster but not more expensive than last year making a pair of these perhaps a better deal than the Mega Boxes. (Same volume of stuff just slightly different and slightly more base cards ... for about $20 less. Neither format guarantees ink but I'd suspect that the Mega delivers more often. (It'd better.) The Orange Ruggs card here saved the break for me -- it pays for one of the boxes and hits one of my collecting sweet spots -- but overall this one feels like it could be hit and miss unless you buy a few. The Claypool RC also seemed to stand out here after last week but probably won't hold up as well as other newcomers unless the successes continue. The feel here is pretty consistent and it also delivers one Silver or Silver Mosaic every time -- and those can pay off easily if you land a notable on one of those. In the short-term, a name like those I landed could do OK but over the long haul, you'd want A-listers or key RCs on those for the biggest wins. All in all, I like this release but we'll see if more ends up hitting the retail aisle. I loaded up on what I saw and did OK overall with the boxes to come but didn't have any big-score cards ... and no Tua Tagovailoa in anything I've ripped -- yet a lot of duplicates for other names. With the lower starting point here, though, it seems like there is more potential to come out ahead if you land something interesting -- I like a little lower-risk option in today's card landscape.
Product Grade: A-
Lot Grade: B+ (helped mainly by the Orange Ruggs and to a lesser degree the rookie variation)
Fun Grade: A-
