What's Buzz-worthy: By my calculations, it's been a long time since we've seen WNBA cards at retail -- way back to the Fleer days -- and Panini America's first Prizm edition for the sport it took over last year (Donruss got the debut and that included Optic inserts) is a colorful chase-making edition that has plenty to look for despite a smaller lineup. Hobby boxes have a bit of everything and guarantees (hit that link up top) while this format might over-deliver based on my handful of boxes based on my early look. I'll lead things off here with the one that yielded the money rookie, No. 1 pick Sabrina Ionescu. The Prizm possibilities in these boxes include Silvers, Greens and Green Pulsar cards -- I pulled each type here -- and that's pretty much it across the board for all inserts here (Dominance, Widescreen, Fireworks, Fearless, Far Out, Emergent, Get Hyped). Autographs found in blasters are only Green Prizm Signatures cards. Based what I have seen in some quick price-checks online, Ionescu is somebody who will pay for your box and more in color and even her base RC has pushed $100 but will settle until wax is gone. (Base sets seem to be getting $100 regularly, too.) The difference between this one and Prizm NBA? There simply can't be as much of this one made -- and there aren't a dozen-plus other WNBA releases to compete with this one ... so once the wax is gone, things could get interesting for those cards that are in demand as there aren't other Rookie Cards to compete with those here. Prices on Ionescu cards are crazy for the rarer pulls and even for mid-range stuff. There are plenty of notables to find here, too, on all those parallels -- at least 16 in the lineup from what I've seen. Again, this box format doesn't have all of them but if you land the right names here, you're golden ... low-risk, high-reward. This one is worth a look as people clear shelves of the latest Mosaic reloads for NBA and other sports and overlook this lower-volume arrival -- this one might be a gem in waiting both right now and perhaps even more later.
