What's Buzz-worthy: This hobby staple is back and while the base design is a bit blocky it's an improvement upon the tweaked 1989 version that was done last year. This one can include some very strong photos in those semi-heavy frames and a deep checklist offers up looks at players you won't find elsewhere during the football-card season. The inserts can be a highlight here in a box that includes a hit every time -- with ink possible -- at a price that's about the same as a single hobby pack right now (those offer a very strong shot at ink and plenty more). The hit this time was from an interesting set as it spotlights career firsts for a number of players. (The swatch isn't from that moment but I like focusing on details. It makes the cards more interesting.) The base set's backs also include some fun details as their stat lines and bios are joined by a "fun fact" -- check out the gallery for a few of those oddities. About the only thing I think is missing here is a college notation for the veterans but most of the other necessary basics are found here. The hot rookie class will make even these vanish fast, though they are still noted with college teams here. All in all, it feels about right for a Score release and it's likely a simple release I'll dabble with more this year vs. last.

Fun Grade: B+ (good volume and variety but it feels like these need some kind of dramatic other type of card ... maybe a blaster bonus pack of foil parallels?)
