Variation booster cards (0) – Mistakenly got two extra base cards (Gavin Lux, Brendan McKay), not two variations
What's Buzz-worthy: I picked up a box of this one and two booster packs as they remain up for grabs via Topps on the cheap ($19.99 per box, $4.99 per five card variation booster pack) but got a bit of a surprise here on the variations front with my two variations here being merely extra base cards and then my two five-card boosters also mistakenly having two sleeved base cards inside instead of five variations. I have a message into customer service and a reply ... so ideally this will be fixed at some point. (We'll see ... I'll update this then.) Big Bummer and a bad grade on this box. ... Why did I revisit this one? Well, I like the super-simple look here and there are some strong possible finds among both the basics you'll see every time and then some big names among the variations. Unfortunately there is a cutting issue on how these are made -- an issue if you grade -- and I think it's from how these are punched out of the sheets when they are made. The card backs around the corners have either cracked/missing/chipped gloss or have cracked/misshaped cardboard. ... What are these? They are a baseball card game created by ESPN personality Kenny Mayne. As I noted last time, the main deck is the winner in my mind but there are variations to be found for Ichiro Suzuki, Frank Robinson, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Rickey Henderson, Robert Clemente and Derek Jeter for starters -- you can see the full list in the gallery below along with the entire deck. ... These had no announced print run and are still available. I'd check those booster packs if you're buying right now, though.
Product Grade: B+
Box Grade: D (Missing variation cards = botched box ... I'll update if this gets fixed via customer service.)
Fun Grade: B
