What's Buzz-worthy: They can't all be winners and this box shows it. This is a general blaster for this one -- no specific retail-chain bonus insert added -- and it's about as rough as it gets for the standard inclusions. The RC crop was brutal here in both names and volume and the SPs/inserts were about as rough as it gets, too. The lone highlights here were probably in the basic stars but even that one wasn't enough to save this one this time. This can happen with smaller boxes of this one, though it hasn't happened to me that often in years of Heritage buying and ripping here. As said in a previous break of this one, my overall impression this year is that this one is an improvement over last year's first series -- and I like the 1971 design a bit better -- but the odds on more basic inserts can make for some lean results at times with smaller box formats and this one proved it. ... Hit that link up top to see the variations galleries -- there's some fun stuff this year -- and see more of what I like in this one by clicking here. I'll rip more but I have a feeling you will have more safety in numbers -- likely in box formats with more packs (hobby or megas). I'd rip into a hobby box first as the price is solid and the volume of what you get should help balance out how the base set can run dry at times with big names hiding a little more in the SPs section of the set. Hit that link up top to get yours.
Product Grade: A
Box Grade: D (as rough as it gets this time ... only missing cards/packs could grade worse)
Fun Grade: C- (just no bigs this time at all)
