From time to time, Buzz will break a box of something and post the results here. Like this and want to see more? Or maybe there's a box you'd want to see busted? Send Buzz an email at BlowoutBuzz@blowoutcards.com.
The box: 2020 Topps MLB Sticker Collection box
Where to buy: Will take some looking ... some past sticker releases here
Keep reading for a breakdown and gallery for what was in this one.
Packs per box: 50
Stickers per pack: 4
Stickers per box: 200
Sticker set completion: ?? of 237 (?? percent)
Duplicates: A bunch this time ... so much so I'm not sorting it
Notables on stickers (some in gallery below): Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Mike Trout, Ozzie Albies, Freddie Freeman, Buster Posey, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Ronald Acuña Jr., Mike Schmidt, Albert Pujols, Johnny Bench, Mookie Betts, mascots and more.
Notables on card backs: Bo Bichette, Luis Robert, Ronald Acuña Jr., Kris Bryant, Cody Bellinger, Clayton Kershaw, Albert Pujols, Ozzie Albies (A lot less top star power on card backs with heavy duplication ... pretty much two of everybody I pulled.)
Insert cards: None
Autographs/Memorabilia: None
What's Buzz-worthy: I previously opened an impressive box of this one that was low on dupes and far higher on star power. This time? This one was so repetitive I refuse to sort it all out. It still had the star power but, wow, it seems like I got two of everybody. (It happens and I didn't mind the Bichette double-up.) ... This one sat on my desk until the end of year (a slow time) because of this but here are some of my thoughts from last time. ... Want a dirt-cheap box with a boatload of packs and a ton of collecting star power? Do this. Why did I do it? Beyond a cheap Buzz Break, I did it so I can slab some Bichette rookies here (both stickers and cards, hence the semi-rigids in the photos). Why? They've got to be off the radars of many out there based on the box prices (sub-$30) and the print runs are perhaps not as astronomical as people might think ("they're stickers") with the twist added that the backs here are cards as well. (That's something done in recent years, giving us more RCs for key names.) The design and subsets in this one are pretty tight -- literally and literally -- with tight photos on most designs and some smart inclusions like legendary past players, highlights, awards, mascots, stadium sights and more. Most of those things get sidelined to more basic releases but they add a good feel to the scope of a release if you're not just looking at re-sale dollar signs. This one was a lot more interesting than I had expected and I think these might have some better long-term appeal than some of the basic stuff.
Product Grade: A (a ton of star power here both past and present with strong RCs)
Box Grade: B (a ton of dupes in this box that hurt the range of stars found on card backs ... yet still appealing)
Fun Grade: B (see above)
