What's Buzz-worthy: My first look at Hoops was a little delayed -- I let the flippers get their fill for a bit and waited for a later arrival -- but it still delivered pretty well for me with a hit (albeit not a big one) that doesn't appear to be guaranteed (could be but this is the only one I have opened or seen opened) and then with a couple of top rookies, a couple of inserts or recent-year notables and even two parallels of players with school ties for me. All in all, I liked the  box,  though I couldn't go A-level on the grade or A+ on the box with rough stock, tweaked corners from packaging and other small issues here way too often for my tastes. (Is it the norm? Maybe some of it ... but first impressions have stuck with me.) The photo frame is a little less overwhelming than recent Hoops releases -- that's good -- while the insert lineup here emulated last year's almost identically. I think this one is solid but perhaps just in need of something more in this format ... something to pop out of the box more or feel more advanced. The SLAM cards are a nice touch and closer to this but still feel a little bit like the other inserts. All in all, if the SRPs here were $19.99 with the hit announced as guaranteed it's a bit of an easy go-to but at $27.48 (Walmart's price with a little more atop SRP ... then add tax) I think I'm more inclined to dabble or just grab whatever gets my attention as singles if I absolutely need something. There are Red parallels (/75) here and some ink and other memorabilia, too, so with some luck and big names in those spots, you can have some big wins here.
