What's Buzz-worthy: My annual check-in with the cardboard version of Gummy Arts -- this is my third year of Buzz Breaking these -- arrived a little later than the normal Jan. 1 release as I had to wait for the second wave, which is already gone but likely to be reloaded soon. (You can see last year's break here -- and you can see the 2019 results here -- and get more background on the artist bringing these to life.) The Gummy Arts Twitter and Instagram feeds are busy ones with more than 11,200 followers who get to see gems digitally on a regular basis and then on cardboard when he makes these packs each year. They are full of timely subjects revisited as pieces that are childlike but also clearly masterful in their whimsical takes on both sports stars but icons in entertainment -- mostly but not always placed on Topps card designs of the past.

I grabbed a trio of packs -- look for the other one in next month's Buzz 8 in 8 marathon -- and landed several classics I wanted when previewing the checklist ... but not all. There are so many hilarious creations in this year's set from beyond the sports world but also in it, too. Among what I found in these two packs? A timely card with Joe Kelly mocking the Astros last year and offering his thoughts on his suspension, President Jimmy Carter caught in action doing what he does with Habitat for Humanity, soccer icon Pele, Led Zeppelin, one I really wanted in A League of Their Own's Jimmy Dugan, Halloween's Laurie Strode and even something for my Alabama Crimson Tide stash with a card of Mel Allen. (How 'bout that?)

The packs aren't the cheapest option out there for $15 direct from the artist -- but eBay results might surprise you and they can be money-makers at a few bucks per card in a lot of instances. It's a fun one to explore and plenty of other people clearly are, too, as Gummy has been doing these for a few years now. My next pack is a strong one -- that's how it cracked the Buzz 8 in 8 lineup -- but my want list for this release still might include The Beatles, Anthony Fauci, a fun John Cusack card, Hunter S. Thompson, Jaws, Roberto Clemente, Pee Wee Reese, Mason Saunders, Abdullah the Butcher, Digital Underground and even a Joe Jackson any clerk (even Kevin Smith) can appreciate.
