What's Buzz-worthy: With the new year of this one on the way (link up top) I decided to dip into last year's crop of college football -- note I didn't say draft picks -- sets released under the NCAA NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) rules that allow current college athletes to sign autograph and card deals. My No. 1 target here? An auto of Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and, well, that didn't happen but I wasn't let down by a scenario I didn't want ... I didn't know any of the names here at a first glance. (Only one college team matters to me ... so I only watch them and their opponent that week.) Sims is the likely Georgia Tech starting QB this year, Ringo is a DB for the national champion Georgia Bulldogs, Egbuka is a WR for Ohio State and Milton was a standout QB for UCF before he was sidelined by a severe injury and transferred to Florida State. The player on the rarest card here is the only one who won't be playing this season, which gives a box like this a longer shelf life -- and more time for interest to gain. The big names like Bryce Young will have more NIL cards and autos to come but these packs are relatively affordable and a big name like him can pay for the box. I also like this one because of the aesthetic and the on-card autos ... my only drawback here was a slightly soft corner on one auto but that will happen with on-card sigs. The autos here based on recent past sales do almost pay for the box but like anything the prices can be all over the place. The checklist (link above) includes a number of notables who will still be playing -- either on Saturdays or on Sundays.
