What's Buzz-worthy: This retail-only release is a simple one that still has a ton to chase. It's a 10-card set in a snap box along with two autographs every time. The set is a mere 10 cards with the white version being a base and then Red and Gold parallels. (No odds on the box but I landed a parallel set this time.) These are all active college players on "Amateur Rookie Cards" (Leaf's logo on them, too) and that gives this one a longer shelf-life as well as there could be big games to come in college to spark collector interest before pro time. The chase here? The autograph lineup is huge with more than 100 different signers and those all also have Gold parallels. This one had just standard cards for the autos with a couple of relatively solid names for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Oregon Ducks. My Bryce Young card here -- probably the highlight card for me -- had surface and edge issues (minor stuff) while several others also had varying issues. (One even had three big surface dents from manufacturing equipment holding cards.) It was enough to damper my reaction to this one for sure. The design is pretty basic -- but it's pretty good in a Pro Set state of mind and that's not a bad thing -- though some of the images so have some awkward crops (Young, Willis, Ewers ... QBs with throwing hands cut off) -- but the two signed cards here looked really sharp over than some back-edge stock issues. Three big autos here are redemptions -- Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and Chris Olave -- but the rest are in there ... though it's a deep crop. I kind of wish the base cards were more of a traditional pack but I suspect this approach might mean cards arrive another way -- or did and I missed it. (I really only college one college team, myself, so I am not watching the various NIL releases as closely ... or they haven't presented themselves at retail like this one.) All in all, I think this one has some good potential, though the odds do make it a steeper climb to find any one particular name. These are slightly premium priced box ($35) is smaller than others out there but there aren't as many active college releases just yet (some are coming or have recently arrived) but at retail there are a number of comparably priced boxes with no guaranteed hits, too. Is this the safest bet? Probably not ... but it's not a bad one, either.
