What's Buzz-worthy: Wave five of this one sold 11,144 packs and my gut says other than maybe one card here these two are pretty average. What drew me in? Appearances by Christy Mathewson, Shohei Ohtani, Honus Wagner and maybe Bryce Harper -- I'm a sucker for tobacco-sized mini card sets -- but I found none of those players. There is ink possible in these packs -- hit the checklist link above for those details -- and then there are 1/1 stamped T206 buybacks and then some chase backs possible. My Sweet Caporal? One in three and not exactly a barn-burner of a name. In this wave Drum cards are announced as /10 while others numbered and not-numbered cards are possible. I did these given how lean retail finds might be out there these days -- I'm just not big on hitless $30 blasters so I have skipped some -- but there is something to be said for a simpler approach here. This year's set is 10 series so there's a chance something will catch my attention once again but this one -- my first rip since Wave 1 -- wasn't that great of an experience. Each pack will get you at least two Piedmont parallels while other back types will replace one of them in a pack. This batch of 50 players only had three rookies -- none all that big -- and included a number of players from the original release ... so if you collect the real thing or those players you might have more to find here.
Product Grade: B
Box Grade: C+ (feels like average at best here with Tatis the biggest highlight)
Fun Grade: B
