What's Buzz-worthy: The annual time-traveling release of the year is here and we're headed back to 1972 with this one, which is loaded with star power in the base set, is lean on the star power in the SPs (a good thing to me, perhaps not to sellers) and then full of quirks and chase if you buy in bulk. Errors and variations that are found in hobby are here, too, but the odds on pretty much everything are pretty long in this one (variations are one in thousands of packs here save for the French backs) making for some dry boxes ... so it's a good thing those In Action cards help bolster the star volume in the 400-card base set. (The first four cards mentioned up top? All in the same pack ... that will be a fun sequence to find over and over.) The blasters specific to chain stores may include some extras as they have in recent years but I'm not 100 percent on that front as this one is a standard box ... that was ordered via Target and noted the photo above (see side panel). Go figure. I've said it before that I'm not a big fan of the 1970s releases but this one is true to '72 in quite a few ways but with modern printing and materials (some unpleasant retro centering for me ... see my Joey Bart) so I think it's an improvement upon the last couple years that were lean on stars in the main portion of the set. I'll definitely rip more -- and hobby boxes were good to me last year, so I'll dabble there, too. Will I rip boatloads of Heritage as I have in the recent past? Well, it depends on how much is left for the kids ... we'll see how that goes out in the retail wild.
